ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE – SOCIO-ECONOMIC IMPLICATIONS

Abstract

In today’s digital age, artificial intelligence is becoming increasingly present and has become an almost inevitable segment of our daily lives. Even before being „dentified“ as artificial intelligence – distinguished from what we refer to as human intelligence – we had already been extensively using numerous applications, services, and tools relying on this digital technology (such as smartphones, automobiles, etc.).

This revolutionary technology is developing at an unstoppable pace, penetrating – often invasively – into all aspects of society, offering numerous advantages by facilitating many aspects of life. However, one must not disregard the potentially negative consequences of any technology, as its implications may have far-reaching impacts on the individual, on society, and on humanity as a whole.

This paper examines and analyzes the implications of the accelerated development of artificial intelligence on the future of work, changes in work processes, and the labor market. The application of artificial intelligence also raises the issue of redefining the role of humans within the work process. While some believe that artificial intelligence may relieve humans of routine tasks, others warn that such technological progress could deepen global and class inequalities and ultimately lead to the disappearance of many jobs traditionally performed by humans.

In the analysis of artificial intelligence, both in its application and development, the author highlights the necessity of establishing a legal framework – universal and unified – with the aim of shaping responsible and trustworthy artificial intelligence, the benefits, operation, implications, and scope of which must be assessed through its impact on human rights and freedoms.

In recent years, an increasing number of countries have engaged with the issue of ethics in the use and implementation of artificial intelligence, by setting boundaries and regulatory frameworks that limit its scope and define its acceptable use, placing human rights as a safeguard. Contemporary society must engage with the ethicality of AI use for the purpose of protecting human rights.

Therefore, rather than focusing on the fear of whether artificial intelligence may soon assume human qualities and capabilities, or attain consciousness – and on efforts to prevent such developments – our focus must shift toward strengthening the human being: their conscience, integrity, fairness, empathy, and ethical responsibility.
