Abstract

Criminal legislation provides various measures to protect the victim from further violence or any negative influence related to his/her participation in the criminal proceedings. These include: measures that restrict the contact between the victim and the perpetrator (restraining measures/orders); witness protection measures (applicable to the victim as a witness); measures, applied to especially vulnerable individuals, participating in the criminal proceedings (special rules for interrogation, etc.). This paper presents a brief comparative analysis of victim protection measures provided for in Bulgarian and Serbian criminal procedure and criminal law. The analysis does not claim to be exhaustive but aims to point out similarities and differences that could be useful for improving the legislation in terms of victim protection.
